With the overcharging incident between a Korean national and a taxi driver in Cebu City. The issue is not just confined between the two individuals nor the company of the driver whom he works with, but it also touches something deeper—the identity of being a Filipino.
“One dishonesty can overshadow a hundred gestures of kindness,” The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) representative Maria Santos stressed, noting that a single unfairness can have a domino effect throughout the country.
Santos encouraged tourists and even local commuters to not hesitate in reporting cases that flag unfairness especially when it comes to transportation fare prices.
“Act with honesty, fairness, and respect, discipline must come from within,” Santos expressed.
This just underscores to values implied not merely with the drivers but also a part of the Filipino community when interacting with one another, especially with other nationalities.
That one act of dishonesty is a serious violation of public trust and a stain on the Filipino identity.
